In collaboration with John Wardle Architects, Jacaranda Industries brought to life the exhibit, Somewhere Other at the Venice Biennale Architecture Exhibition in 2018.
The material used was spotted gum and the challenge was to ensure that the structure was demountable and transportable to Venice by the end of February 2018. Our initial concept design meeting commenced in December of 2017.
Over the next eight weeks an aggressive schedule was maintained to achieve the shipment deadline. After the arrival of Somewhere Other, the Jacaranda team assembled the structure within ten days in the historic Arsenale, the centrepiece of the venetian shipyards.
Jacaranda Industries were directly involved in the design buildability during the construction process. The extensive shop drawing designs had to incorporate the service components of Somewhere Other whilst maintaining the structural elements and integrity.
The entire exhibit was manufactured at our Geelong Factory within three weeks and the result was a meticulously constructed viewing portal that would introduce viewers to the buildings of John Wardle Architects and the landscapes of Australia from Venice.
